Description
The welded steel base stabilizes the hand sculpted wire frame which is draped in hessian fabric. I chiseled away sections of the wooden bark, allowing it to slot onto the lamp, creating an optional bar stand, or DJ platform. On the right hand a metal hanger has been perfectly slotted into the dip I shaved down in the wood.
The lamp was also built with the intention of being a maquette for a larger pillar design, whereby a large open room would be supported by this structure, with the wooden plank representing a wooden beam that runs across the length of an open plan house, which would be divided by the quarterly shape of the lamp, forming the different rooms. The houses' illumination also coming from this central point.
